$1B Data Center Proposed

A developer filed paperwork proposing the Kingston Technology Hub, a 350,000-square-foot data center on 559 acres in Bartow County.

New York-based Thor Acquisition estimates a $1 billion value at build-out, with roughly 50 full-time jobs, 150 megawatts of power demand, and 50,000 gallons of daily water use.

The filing arrives as metro Atlanta leads North America in data center construction, according to a new industry report on development across the continent.

Elsewhere, some Jesup residents questioned a potential data center at the Wayne Commerce Center and petitioned city leaders for a moratorium.

  Labor Day Road Deaths Drop

Five people died in crashes on Georgia roads over Labor Day weekend, down from 15 deaths reported during last year’s holiday travel period, officials said.

Georgia State Patrol troopers responded to 209 crashes statewide that injured 82 people, and state law enforcement made about 300 DUI arrests after extra patrols began Friday.

Troopers also wrote hundreds of seatbelt and distracted-driving citations during the 78-hour travel period, which ended at midnight Monday.

The Department of Public Safety had urged drivers to plan ahead, designate sober drivers, or use rideshare services, saying dangerous driving carries real consequences.

9/11 Anniversary Events Set

Communities across Georgia will mark 25 years since the Sept. 11 attacks this week with memorial stair climbs, campus discussions, and local ceremonies.

Firefighters and residents will climb the equivalent of the World Trade Center’s 110 stories at events in LaGrange and Columbus.

Valdosta State University hosts a free public discussion Thursday on the attacks and their lasting impact on American foreign policy.

In Roswell, the city’s annual ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday at City Hall, with a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., when the first plane struck the north tower of the World Trade Center.
