Article Icon 1 Prank Threat Leads to Fatal Wreck

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green, R-Rome, called for an end to so-called “swatting” of political opponents after a motorist died in a traffic crash involving an officer responding to a fake bomb threat targeting Green’s home.

“Swatting”—a 911 call of a fake life-threatening emergency in an attempt to get police, bomb squads and other rescue personnel to disrupt the swatting target’s daily life—has been on the rise against public officials in recent years, mostly Republicans.

Green reacted to the fatal crash on her social media account, saying she is “heartsick” and angry.

These violent political threats have fatal consequences…The officer was responding to protect my life. And now, a woman has lost her life because of this despicable act,” she said.

Five Georgia hospitals earned “D” grades, the lowest mark given by the authors of Leapfrog Hospital Safety report. Click here for the grades of hospitals in your area.

Nationally, hospitals are showing “significant progress” in patient safety, according to Leapfrog, an independent nonprofit focused on medical provider quality, safety, and transparency.

Home values continued to rise in Georgia, with Sea Island, Milton, and Skidaway Island leading in year-over-year gains, a data research group said.

The average price in Sea Island is $4.5 million, up 11.7% from a year ago, while Milton and Skidaway Islands’ average prices of around $900,000 are up 6-7%.

Going forward, home prices—up 65% statewide since before the COVID pandemic—are expected to steady next year due in part to an increase in construction of new single-family houses.
