Gas Tax Break Ends Tonight

The state’s gas tax suspension—which has saved drivers about 33 cents per gallon at the pump—expires at 11:59 p.m. today.

A spokesperson for Gov. Brian Kemp, who extended the tax break once, said no further extensions are planned pending “unexpected needs in the future.”

Currently, the statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded is around $3.83. You can track gas prices in your area here.

Georgia was the first among only a few states to pause state fuel taxes as prices rose due to the Middle East conflict, with Kemp saying he wanted to “return taxpayer money where it belongs, in the pockets of hardworking Georgians.”

Busy Month of Politics Underway

The June 16 Republican runoffs for governor and U.S. Senate are the opening act of what could be one of Georgia’s most politically significant months in recent years.

Right after the June 16 runoff votes are counted, Gov. Brian Kemp will convene a special legislative session to redraw the state’s congressional and legislative maps and also address the ban on QR codes in ballot counting.

In the runoffs, the GOP primary race for U.S. Senate began the final stretch on Sunday with a debate on immigration and other issues between candidates U.S. Rep. Mike Collins, R-Jackson, and Derek Dooley.

On Monday, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones took the stage alone in the GOP governor’s debate sponsored by the Atlanta Press Club, with runoff candidate Rick Jackson choosing not to attend.

Braves Off to Best Start in Years

The Atlanta Braves entered June at 40-20, the best record in Major League Baseball and among the most dominant starts in club history.

Within the National League East, they lead second-place Washington by nine games, a dramatic turnaround for a team that opened last year with seven straight losses and finished 76-86 and in fourth place in the NL East.

First baseman Matt Olson is considered an early-season NL MVP favorite, and pitchers Chris Sale and Bryce Elder are among the league leaders to start the season.

“You name it, the Braves are doing it well. The most fun thing they’re doing is putting together comeback victories: They have an MLB-high 18 comeback wins. Every single bad vibe from last year has disappeared in 2026, so far,” an MLB analyst said in his latest power rankings that show the Braves holding at No. 1.
