Georgians braced for the state’s first significant heat wave of the summer, with temperatures of around 100 degrees expected over the coming days in many areas.

The National Weather Service issued alerts through Friday as high humidity could push the feels-like temperature to 105° or more.

Atlanta, Macon, and Columbus are among the cities at risk for extreme heat, which poses dangers especially for seniors, children, and those without air conditioning.

The hot spell is part of a broader heat wave stretching from the Great Plains to the East Coast.
