Article Icon 1Vance Visits; Kirk Skips Amid Threats

Vice President JD Vance spoke at a Turning Point USA College Tour stop Tuesday night in Athens, an event shaken by Erika Kirk’s cancellation after receiving “very serious threats.”

Kirk is TPUSA’s current CEO and the widow of Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated at a Utah college event in September. The Athens stop was the second leg of the group’s national tour aimed at engaging young voters on college campuses.

Vance praised the work of Erika Kirk since her husband’s death. He also discussed home affordability, immigration, the conflict with Iran, and the U.S. response to Israel’s war in Gaza.

Tickets were free through Turning Point USA’s website. The UGA Young Democrats chapter planned to hold a protest outside the arena.

Prime Inc., one of North America’s largest trucking and logistics companies, will build its new Southeastern regional headquarters in Spalding County.

Gov. Brian Kemp announced the project on Tuesday, with state and local officials noting the $160 million-plus investment marks one of the region’s biggest economic wins in years.

The campus will be built at the High Falls 16 Business Center near Griffin, creating more than 120 full-time jobs and hiring over 50 professional drivers.

The facility is designed as a full-service driver hub, with development and training programs, equipment maintenance operations, and comfort amenities built to support Prime’s driver-first culture.

Georgia is sweating through an early-season heat wave this week, with temperatures running 8 to 15 degrees above normal from the mountains to the coast.

Daily high records could fall today through Friday. Low humidity is keeping mornings comfortable, but Red Flag fire warnings remain in effect across much of the state.

The heat lands on already-parched ground, with almost all of the state in some level of drought and farmers struggling through planting season.
