State leaders announced that a booming economy in Georgia saw over $20.3 billion in investments and the creation of 26,900 new jobs in fiscal year 2024.

Governor Brian Kemp and the Georgia Department of Economic Development pointed to 429 facility expansions and new locations statewide helping drive the growth.

Officials said the Atlanta area alone, as a business and logistics hub, attracted over $7.8 billion in investments.

Georgia Power is seeking approval to add 80 megawatts of biomass energy to its portfolio by building three new plants.

The expansion, if approved by the Public Service Commission, would contribute to Georgia’s existing capacity of 350 megawatts from biomass, typically created by burning wood pellets or other organic matter.

Environmentalists oppose the plan, arguing that biomass burning is not renewable and risks polluting vulnerable communities.

The Public Service Commission will make the final decision on Sept. 17, after a round of hearings and public comments on Sept. 12.

Chick-fil-A is opening its first elevated drive-thru restaurant in McDonough, Georgia, marking a new concept for the chain.

The restaurant features four drive-thru lanes and an elevated kitchen with a conveyer belt system to streamline food delivery to customers. A meal can be delivered from the kitchen to the workers below in six seconds.

The kitchen in this new location is twice the size of a typical Chick-fil-A kitchen and can handle two-to-three times the amount of traffic. It offers only drive-thru service with no dine-in option.
