Polls open at 7 a.m. today as Georgia voters decide races for governor, the U.S. Senate, other statewide offices, congressional and legislative seats, judgeships, ballot questions, and local races.

Forecasters expect mostly dry, mild weather statewide, with highs from the low 70s in the mountains to the low 80s in some areas.

Updated early and absentee voting numbers show more than 2.8 million ballots accepted by Sunday night, about 37.5% of active voters, according to the secretary of state’s website.

Polls close at 7 p.m. Anyone in line by then can still vote.

Article Icon 1Property Tax Relief Arrives

The 2026 Homeowner Tax Relief Grant Program will provide eligible homeowners an $18,000 reduction in the assessed value on their 2026 property tax bills, Gov. Brian Kemp said Monday.

The state Department of Revenue will begin distributing funds to local governments this week through the grant program, approved by lawmakers in the amended fiscal 2026 budget.

The savings will appear as a reduction on tax bills rather than a check, and homeowners with a qualifying homestead exemption don’t need to apply separately.

Nine Georgia cities made U.S. News & World Report’s 2027 Best Places to Retire list, led by Smyrna at No. 83.

Macon ranked 105th on the 250-city list, followed by Dalton, Warner Robins, Johns Creek, Augusta, Marietta, Alpharetta, and Gainesville.

U.S. News evaluated more than 850 cities on quality of life, affordability, health care, retiree taxes, job market, and migration of retirees 55 and older. Affordability carried more weight this year.

Midland, Michigan, claimed the top spot for a second straight year.
