Article Icon 1Trump Could Recover Legal Costs

A bill unanimously passed by the state Senate could permit President Trump and more than a dozen people to seek compensation for legal bills related to election investigations.

The bill would enable compensation from counties for attorney fees and other legal costs in cases where the prosecutors are disqualified and the case is dismissed, along with other instances.

The measure comes partly in response to the election probe where Fulton County DA Fani Willis was removed due to her romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.

Democrats also voted in support of the bill, citing a wider range of benefits for the people of Georgia. Minority Leader Harold Jones II said the bill is “actually something that we probably would have pushed many years ago.”

More than a month after he went missing on Lake Oconee, Gary Jones’s body was found in about 45 feet of water in the lake.

The Atlanta teacher and coach had been on a boat celebrating his 50th birthday with his fiancée, college professor Joycelyn Wilson, whose body was found in the lake the next day.

Authorities do not suspect foul play and plan to conduct autopsies on Jones and Wilson.

Jones’ body was found by Keith Cormican, who leads a nonprofit underwater recovery team from Wisconsin that recently joined the search efforts using advanced sonar equipment.

Macon native and UGA alum Russell Henley won the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill to claim the biggest win of his career over the weekend. Henley earned $4 million with the victory and moved into the top 10 in the world golf rankings.

The pivotal moment for the 35-year-old came when he chipped in for an eagle to take the lead with two holes remaining. On the final hole, he made a short putt for his first win since 2022, and his three children and wife rushed to the green to celebrate with him.

Henley recently established the Chapin Henley M.D. Scholarship Fund in Macon, named after his late father who delivered more than 5,000 babies and founded the Macon Volunteer Clinic to give free healthcare to uninsured patients.
