State Extends Enrollment Deadline

The state extended the deadline to enroll in Georgia’s new state-based healthcare insurance marketplace, pushing the initial deadline from yesterday to Friday.

The new marketplace, Georgia Access, replaces the federal Obamacare marketplace with the goal of providing Georgians with more tailored and accessible options.

The newness of the program, along with lingering disruptions from Hurricane Helene, could keep some residents from meeting Monday’s deadline, state leaders said.

The Friday deadline is for those who want coverage to start Jan. 1. If enrolling after Friday, coverage begins Feb. 1. Click here for enrollment details.

Georgians Report Drone Sightings

Reports of drone sightings are starting to pop up in Georgia, with one Cobb County resident saying he saw one over his neighborhood Friday.

Georgia joins other states where residents are now reporting mysterious-looking drones flying overhead, weeks after similar reports in New Jersey and the Northeast began drawing attention.

Authorities continue to field reports about drones but urge caution, saying no evidence exists of any public safety or national security risk. Click here to read the FBI Atlanta’s statement.

Herschel Walker Gets His Degree

Football icon Herschel Walker graduated from the University of Georgia last week, completing his degree more than 40 years after leaving school early to begin his pro football career.

Walker drew cheers among his fellow students as he struck a pose while crossing the stage during the school’s midyear commencement ceremony last week. He won the Heisman in 1982.

Walker, 62, majored in Housing Management and Policy. On social media, he shared a video message about his return to college, calling education “the equalizer” and the path to sustainable success.
