High Schools Go for Gridiron Gold

Football fans from across the state will flock to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta starting today for Georgia’s high school football championships that run through Wednesday.

The games cap a season of standout performances by players and teams, with Class 5A Milton and Class 6A Carrollton ranked in the Top 10 nationally.

The championships also feature this year’s girls’ flag football title games.

In other prep football news, senior running back Ousmane Kromah of Leesburg’s Lee County High School was named Mr. Georgia Football. Lee County lost to Milton in the semifinals.

Georgian Named Belgium Ambassador

The businessman who led the state Senate-blocked push to make Buckhead its own city became the latest Trump nominee from Georgia, this one for U.S. ambassador to Belgium.

Bill White, a friend of President-elect Donald Trump and one-time head of a New York City military museum, will succeed Michael Adler, who has served in the role since 2022.

Other Georgians tabbed for the incoming Trump administration positions are Doug Collins and businesswoman Kelly Loeffler for cabinet posts and former U.S. Sen. David Perdue as ambassador to China.

New Congressman a GOP Rising Star

U.S. Rep.-elect Brian Jack of Georgia’s 3rd congressional district has emerged as one of the House’s most influential new leaders, appointed as the freshman representative to the GOP House Steering Committee.

More than a quarter of 2025 House GOP freshmen have landed spots on key committees, the most this century and a big win for Jack in his new role, one political website reported.

Jack, 36, a close political ally of President-elect Donald Trump, is a sixth-generation Georgian raised in Fayette County and a graduate of Pepperdine University.
