Article Icon 1House Republicans Retain Leadership Team 

Georgia House Republicans voted to retain their leadership team for two more years, renominating Jon Burns as speaker and Jan Jones as speaker pro tem.

Burns highlighted the House’s recent successes, including tax reductions, investments in infrastructure, and efforts in education and public safety.

Majority Leader Chuck Efstration and other key leaders were also re-elected, with the team emphasizing priorities for the upcoming legislative session, such as expanding healthcare access and addressing school safety.

Burns expressed optimism about continuing the Republican agenda and supporting Georgia’s families and economy.

The University System of Georgia has reached a record-high enrollment of nearly 365,000 students across its 26 public institutions this fall.

This growth includes a 27% increase in out-of-state students since 2020, drawn by factors such as Georgia remaining open for business during the pandemic while other states shut down. 

Enrollment has become more diverse, with a rise in Latino and Asian students. 

The Board of Regents also approved policies for merit-based admissions and hiring and greenlit a $25 million expansion for Georgia Tech’s basketball facilities.

Georgia’s top fast food choice is Chick-fil-A, followed by Domino’s, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, and Papa John’s, according to a recent study.

Wendy’s, Burger King, and Popeyes rank lower, while Taco Bell and Chipotle sit in the middle of the state’s top ten.

Nationally, Domino’s ranks first, with McDonald’s second and Chick-fil-A third, while Pizza Hut and Taco Bell follow in fourth and fifth. Wendy’s and Subway complete the national top ten, with Popeyes and Burger King just outside.
