Hurricane Isaias Arrives
Hurricane Isaias came ashore near Destin, Florida, on Friday night as a Category 2 storm with 105 mph winds, weakening to a Category 1 as it moved inland and bringing the threat of heavy rain, damaging winds, and possible tornadoes to Georgia.
Isaias, the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season, strengthened into a hurricane on Oct. 7, marking the Atlantic season’s latest first hurricane in 121 years.
North and central Georgia could see widespread rainfall of 2 to 4 inches, with higher totals in some spots, according to the National Weather Service. Wind gusts could reach 40 to 60 mph in parts of north Georgia.
Gov. Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency for all 159 counties before the storm arrived, and thousands in south Georgia have lost power.
Conditions should improve significantly overnight Saturday into Sunday morning, according to the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency.
