The Norman Medford-Peden Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta burned earlier this year and is now under investigation after a British photographer discovered urns, human remains, and sensitive personal documents in the abandoned building.

Six agencies, including the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, are probing the handling of prepaid funeral funds and missing money, which should have been held in trust or insured.

Photographer Ben James reported finding over 30 urns, family photos, death certificates, hazardous chemicals, and a human fetus in a jar, prompting authorities to investigate the whereabouts of the funeral home’s owner.

Authorities are urging families who used the funeral home to come forward to help recover missing funds and identify the remains.
