Article Icon 1Audit Reveals Mail Delays in Central Georgia

Auditors discovered 792 undelivered packages in Warner Robins during an inspection of post offices in central Georgia in November.

The audit by the U.S. Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General also examined operations in Gray, Macon, and Perry, finding mail delays and problems with package scanning in each city.

The results provide fresh examples of the mail delivery problems in Georgia that go beyond issues at a new mail processing center in Atlanta, the main focus of a congressional review started last spring.

The Postal Service says it’s working to improve services. Last week, U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced he would step down, a move supported by Georgia U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff.

After starting near the back of the pack, Christopher Bell won the NASCAR Ambetter Health 400 in overtime Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway. His car was slightly in front of two others when a race-ending caution flag flew.

Dawsonville driver Chase Elliott was caught up in a crash just after the race’s halfway mark, his car slamming into the outside wall while running in 10th place. Before the race, he posted a message saying, “Home Track,” with an image of a Georgia peach. He finished 20th.

Sunday’s event capped a busy race week for the Hampton track, with some fans camped out since last Monday. On Saturday, Georgia native Austin Hill won the Xfinity Series race, and NASCAR star Kyle Busch won a photo finish in the Craftsman Truck Series race.

Article Icon 1Farmers Relief Fund Tops $1.7M

A disaster relief fund set up by farmers to help fellow farmers impacted by Hurricane Helene has drawn “overwhelming support,“ collecting more than $1.7 million, fund organizers said.

The support “is a testament to the deep appreciation and respect that people hold for Georgia farmers,” said Lily Baucom, executive director of the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture.

More than 40 private and public agricultural organizations came together to start the fund, named “Weathered But Strong: Hurricane Relief Fund for Georgia Farmers.” Visit the fund’s website here.

Over two dozen individuals and organizations have given $25,000 or more, including Kelly Loeffler, Georgia businesswoman and new U.S. Small Business Administration chief. See the full list of donors here.
