Two people were killed and 35 injured when gunfire broke out at a homecoming block party in Vienna overnight Saturday, authorities said. Several victims were hit by cars as people were trying to leave the scene.

More than 1,000 people were gathered at the party, and more than 50 shots were fired in at least two locations about a block apart in Vienna, Dooly County Sheriff Craig Peavy said.

Two men, ages 21 and 23, died at the scene. About 25 of the victims were taken to hospitals across the region. No arrests had been announced as of early Sunday.

Sheriff’s deputies were patrolling the gathering when shots were fired around 1:25 a.m. Sunday. The sheriff’s office asked the GBI to assist, and tipsters can call the agency’s Perry office.
