Georgia Soldier Laid to Rest

U.S. Army 1st Lt. Tyler Feehan, 25, was buried with full military honors next to his grandfather on Friday at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.

Feehan, raised in Bryan County, was one of three American soldiers killed last month in an Iranian attack on a U.S. air base in Jordan.

Mourners lined Marietta Highway waving American flags, and some drivers stopped their vehicles to salute as the funeral procession went by. Gov. Brian Kemp attended the service and ordered flags statewide to be flown at half-staff.

Feehan was posthumously promoted to captain and awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Action Badge. His parents said they are directing his death gratuity toward scholarships for ROTC cadets and future soldiers.

Cyberattacks Target State’s Water Systems

Hackers gained access to the Coweta County Water Authority’s water system on July 27, the utility confirmed.

The utility’s CEO Jay Boren said the hackers tried to change passwords and take control of equipment. Crews switched to manual operations, and Boren said drinking water was never affected.

Coweta is at least the third Georgia utility this week to report a cyberattack. Clayton County issued a boil water advisory after a pump station failed, then disclosed the following week that hackers had targeted its system. Columbus Water Works also confirmed a breach.

Cyberattacks on water systems have now been reported in at least 12 states, and officials are investigating whether they trace to Iran.

Statewide Drought Concludes

The National Weather Service declared Georgia’s drought officially over Thursday, closing out a dry spell that began Sept. 23, 2025.

In April, exceptional drought covered roughly a third of the state. On April 28, every Georgia county was experiencing at least severe drought for the first time since the U.S. Drought Monitor began recording conditions in 2000.

By late April, 146 Georgia counties sat under a federal drought disaster declaration, allowing eligible farmers in those counties to apply for USDA emergency loans.

A few North Georgia counties remain in moderate drought, but most of the state is now only classified as abnormally dry.
