Another Palmetto USPS Worker Dies on the Job

Demarcus Little, 45, a worker at the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) regional distribution center in Palmetto, died at the facility on Wednesday.

This incident marks the fourth death of an employee at the facility since it opened in early 2024. Among the prior deaths was Eric Smith, 59, an electric technician who died after suffering an apparent medical emergency at the distribution center in June of last year.

As of Friday, the cause of death for Little, a father of three, has not been released.

“Our thoughts are with their family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. We will be providing counseling services to employees at the Palmetto Regional Distribution Center,” a spokesperson for USPS said.

Butler Man Arrested for Stealing Roof

A Butler man, Jason Childree, was arrested after authorities say he stole an entire metal roof from an empty house on S.B. Eubanks Road in Reynolds.

Childree has been charged with theft by taking, burglary, criminal trespass, and criminal damage to property.

Three other suspects have been identified by authorities. The investigation remains ongoing.

Taylor County Sheriff John Sawyer said the case is among the most unusual he’s encountered. “In my 35-year law enforcement career, I have never seen anyone steal the roof off of a house.”

Atlanta Ranks Among US Most Forgetful Cities

Uber’s latest Lost & Found Index ranked Atlanta as the ninth most forgetful city in the nation for rideshare passengers.

The report provides a yearly overview of items passengers commonly forget during Uber rides.

Nationwide, the most commonly misplaced items are phones, wallets, luggage, and keys. However, riders have also left behind more unusual items, including a mannequin, dentures, pelvis implants, 20 pounds of duck sausage, and a ticket to an Atlanta Falcons game.

Georgians can now use a new feature on the Uber app to request a ride that will help get their lost belongings returned to them.
