$2B State Tax Relief Passes

State lawmakers agreed on an amended midyear budget that provides about $2 billion in state tax relief to residents, sending the measure to Gov. Brian Kemp for his expected signature.

The package allocates $1.2 billion for another year of state income tax rebates of $250 for single filers and $500 for married couples.

An additional $850 million will fund a property-tax credit, expected to save homeowners an average of $300 to $500.

The amended budget also adds money for teacher and state-worker bonuses, along with funding for transportation, behavioral health, rural hospitals, public safety, and school growth.

  H.S. Basketball Playoffs Open

The state high school basketball playoffs opened this week, with first-round games producing tight finishes and blowouts.

Higher seeds are hosting the early-round games before the boys and girls tournaments shift to Macon for the GHSA basketball state championships on March 11-14 at the city’s Centreplex.

A family from Evans watched as its Family Feud episodes aired on Monday and Tuesday, nearly a year after they traveled to Atlanta to compete on the nationally syndicated game show.

Members of the Holloway family called the experience memorable and encouraged other families to apply through the show’s website.

“It’s a process; a long-term process, but if you go through the process and when you finally make it there, it’s amazing. It really is,” Emory Holloway said.

Earlier this month, the Peele family from Conyers and Eastern North Carolina appeared on Family Feud as a tribute to their late mother and her favorite TV program.
