Fall Festival Season in Full Swing

Georgia is already knee-deep in fall fun as the official start of autumn arrives today.

Veteran Protects Others During Shooting Threat

A veteran directed restaurant staff to safety and then guarded the door armed with his personal firearm after a man threatened a Springfield restaurant Saturday night, witnesses said.

The unidentified gunman made threatening comments inside the El Ximador restaurant and then went to his car to retrieve a gun, later firing the gun outside, witnesses said.

No injuries were reported, and the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office said a suspect was arrested but did not release additional details.

Falcons Shut Out

The Atlanta Falcons were steamrolled 30-0 by the previously winless Carolina Panthers on Sunday, with quarterback Michael Penix Jr. benched late in the game.

Penix completed 18 of 36 passes for 172 yards with two interceptions. Veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins replaced him in the fourth quarter.

Falcons head coach Raheem Morris dismissed a reporter’s question about a possible change at starting quarterback going forward, saying Penix was taken out to avoid injury risks.
