Radio’s Cadillac Jack Dies

Atlanta country music radio personality William Choate, known to fans as Cadillac Jack, died last week of a heart attack. He was 51.

Choate was a longtime personality on Kicks 101.5, now known as New Country 101-FIVE. Most recently, he worked at Fayette County’s The Bear 92.5, which posted a tribute to him.

He was also a staple on WSB-TV’s Thanksgiving broadcasts, co-hosting the Macy’s Great Tree Lighting with Jovita Moore.

Choate is survived by his wife and three children.

  Air Quality Gets Failing Grade

The American Lung Association’s 2025 State of the Air report gives Atlanta poor grades across the board, ranking it as one of the most polluted metro areas in the Southeast.

Metro Atlanta ranked as the third worst in the Southeast region for ozone pollution—also known as smog— and as the fourth worst for particulate pollution.

The area received a grade of F for ozone pollution, down from a C last year, and now ranks as the 48th worst in the nation. Fulton County and Henry County also received F grades. 

While an ongoing concern, pollution in the area has declined over the last 25 years, according to the Lung Association’s records.

Orange Crush Termed a Success

Tybee Island leaders called the Orange Crush beach celebration on Saturday a success, with about 30,000 visitors attending, few disruptions, and the island cleared of traffic by 11 p.m.

Local businesses reported strong sales, and police reported no beach citations and fewer than two dozen arrests, reflecting a more orderly scene compared to past years’ events.

This year, organizers and city officials worked closely on planning and security, leading the city to issue a rare permit for the celebration, a favorite of spring breakers from Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
