Article Icon 1Georgia Prepares for Hurricane Milton Fallout

Hurricane Milton is expected to bring tropical storm-force winds of up to 39 mph and heavy rain of up to 6 inches to Georgia’s coastal areas starting Wednesday.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development has issued a travel alert for Florida evacuees ahead of the storm’s arrival.

Centers in Valdosta, St. Marys, and Port Wentworth have 24/7 access to restrooms, and staff are ready to assist evacuees in finding lodging and emergency services. See the full alert here

Air travel disruptions from Hurricane Milton have led Hartsfield-Jackson to expect 95 additional cancellations today as the storm intensifies.

In Atlanta, hotels are preparing to accommodate evacuees and first responders, offering extended-stay options with full kitchens and laundry facilities.

Article Icon 1State Election Board Meets for Last Time Before Election

The Georgia State Election Board met on Tuesday to discuss whether county election boards have properly addressed voter eligibility challenges and to clarify new rules to ensure a smooth election process.

The board has implemented measures for ballot counting, election certification, and expanding poll watcher access to improve transparency and accuracy.

These efforts have faced criticism, notably from the state and national Democrats, who have raised concerns about the rules’ potential to delay certification.

Pending court decisions will determine the fate of these new rules, including whether county election boards may conduct “reasonable inquiries” into the election process, even if such inquiries delay certification.
