Article Icon 1 Trump Takes Georgia, Wins Presidency

Donald Trump won the White House for a second time early Wednesday morning according to news media projections, taking Georgia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina, and leading in the other swing states as of 2 a.m. ET.

In Georgia, Trump won 50.7% of the vote to Vice President Kamala Harris’ 48.4%, winning the state’s 16 electoral delegates.

Nationally, Trump also appeared to win the popular vote. At 2 a.m. he had 66.5 million votes to Vice President Kamala Harris’ 61.6 million. In his first election, Trump won the Electoral College but lost the popular vote.

Harris campaign officials said she would make no statement Tuesday night as her supporters began leaving her watch party at Howard University.

Article Icon 1Incumbents Win Easily in Congressional Races

The redrawn map of Georgia’s Congressional districts submitted by a GOP-dominated legislature and approved by a federal judge late last year had little effect on the state’s delegation.

Democrat Lucy McBath faced a challenging test due to redistricting, running in a new district for the second consecutive election. However, she won decisively in her newly adopted 6th Congressional District with 75% of the vote.

In Congressional District 2, Democrat Sanford Bishop was expected to face a competitive race but easily defeated Republican A. Wayne Johnson with 56% of the vote.

Georgians also re-elected Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene in District 14, despite her controversial reputation.

Article Icon 1Ballot Questions Aimed at Limiting Property Taxes Pass

Georgia voters approved two tax-related measures in the Nov. 5 election. Proposed Constitutional Amendment 1 passed with 62% of the vote, capping property assessment increases at the rate of inflation to prevent sudden tax hikes from rising home values.

Statewide Referendum Question A also passed, with 64% support, raising the personal property tax exemption from $7,500 to $20,000. This change is expected to benefit small business owners facing increasing operational costs.

A third measure, Proposed Constitutional Amendment 2, which would establish a specialized tax court for Georgia, remains undecided as our closing as the vote count is too close to call.
