Article Icon 1Georgia Power Rates Frozen Through 2028

Georgia’s Public Service Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved a freeze on Georgia Power’s base electricity rates through the end of 2028, following three years of steady increases.

The deal, first pitched by Gov. Brian Kemp, delays a potential rate hike tied to $862 million in storm damage from Hurricane Helene, which will now be reviewed separately.

Critics argue that the plan obscures long-term cost risks associated with rising demand from data centers and generous profit margins for the utility. For now, 2.3 million customers can expect some relief.

Delta Air Lines and other carriers are still recovering after severe storms hit Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport late last week, triggering flight delays, cancellations, and even an evacuation of the control tower.

On June 28 alone, over 1,200 Delta flights were delayed and nearly 600 canceled, as hail and high winds forced inspections of more than 100 aircraft.

By Monday, most operations had stabilized, with only minor delays reported. The chaos came just as airlines braced for a record July 4 travel rush.

Article Icon 1Blue Ridge Offers Cool Escape from Heat

While much of Georgia sizzles under triple-digit heat indices, Blue Ridge, tucked in the North Georgia mountains, is running nearly 10 degrees cooler than cities like Atlanta and Macon.

Nestled in the Chattahoochee National Forest, the town offers scenic train rides, waterfall hikes, and a charming downtown, all with highs around 88 degrees.

The mountain town has become a popular summer escape, especially as a dangerous heat dome blankets the Southeast. From kayaking on Lake Blue Ridge to catching a flick at the Swan Drive-In Theatre, it’s a solid spot to beat the heat without leaving the state.
