Spirits High for ’12 Planes of Christmas’

There’s no letup in a 500-member volunteer group’s mission of restoring military aircraft, busy right now on the Commemorative Air Force’s ninth-annual Twelve Planes of Christmas national fund-raiser to restore WWII-era aircraft.

The Georgia group’s focus is the restoration of a P-47 Thunderbolt. Other chapters across the country are spotlighting 11 other aircraft. Chapters are also highlighting a biplane project dedicated to WWII icon Rosie the Riveter.

The Georgia group draws praise for its work and public aircraft displays across the Southeast, with one WWII aviation enthusiast penning a first-hand account of his chance to ride in a P-51D “Red Nose” Mustang.

  Military Families Give and Receive

Holiday cheer is flowing back and forth between civilians and military families, with an Alpharetta American Legion Post’s giveaway of 100 bikes as an example.

In Warner Robins, military families are on the receiving end as donors fill shoeboxes with toys, school supplies, and personal care items for Operation VECTR Military Child.

President-elect Donald Trump recently noted Georgia’s support for military families in his nomination of Gainesville veteran and former congressman Doug Collins as Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
