Article Icon 1Election Officials Must Certify by Deadline, Judge Rules

A Fulton County judge has ordered Georgia election superintendents to certify the Nov. 5 election results by the state-mandated deadline of Nov. 12 at 5 p.m.

The ruling clarifies that election officials must meet the statutory deadline to certify results despite ongoing disputes regarding new rules passed by the Georgia State Election Board.

Judge Robert McBurney stated that while the new rule requiring a “reasonable inquiry” into election results is valid, it does not override the legal deadline for certification. He emphasized: “The deadline is the deadline. Get done what you can.”

The judge’s decision ensures that election boards don’t use discrepancies in election-related documents as a reason to delay the certification process.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis sent a letter to U.S. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, arguing that allowing former special prosecutor Nathan Wade to testify before Congress would interfere with the ongoing criminal case against former President Donald Trump.

This response came after Jordan requested Wade’s testimony in May regarding his role in the investigation and his eventual firing.

Willis emphasized that congressional involvement in the state-level case could hinder the prosecution and disrupt the legal proceedings, as Wade is privy to confidential information.

Jordan’s letter raised concerns about the Trump investigation and Wade’s dismissal, seeking clarity on the matter.

Article Icon 1Sheriff Calls for Backup Over Botched Burger King Order

A Cobb County sheriff called the police to a Burger King after his order was incorrect, and the staff refused to replace it.

Bodycam footage shows deputies racing to the scene with lights and sirens on. The sheriff asked for his fellow officers to get the name of the store owner or manager so that he could make an official complaint.

The incident happened in March 2023 but has just come to light as the sheriff is involved in a reelection bid. The sheriff’s opponent has criticized his behavior, arguing that the incident reflects poor judgment and an abuse of power, as multiple deputies were involved in the minor dispute.

The sheriff defended his actions, saying he was treated disrespectfully and acted appropriately.
