Article Icon 1Kemp Won’t Run for U.S. Senate

Gov. Brian Kemp said he won’t run for U.S. Senate in 2026, passing on a race that many fellow Republicans hoped he would enter against incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff.

Kemp, who is term-limited from running for governor, said entering the U.S. Senate race is “not the right decision for me and my family” and pledged to support the eventual Republican nominee.

His decision leaves the GOP without an obvious frontrunner and opens the door for several members of the state’s congressional delegation, including Reps. Buddy Carter, Mike Collins, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Rich McCormick.

Thousands gathered in Evans on Monday to honor Columbia County Deputy Brandon Sikes, who was shot and killed during a traffic stop last week.

The funeral procession on Washington Road featured a horse-drawn hearse, and a military salute and community tributes marked his final farewell.

“The overriding goal for Brandon was to serve people and help people,” Columbia County Sheriff Clay Whittle said, noting Sikes’ distinguished service as a U.S. Army combat medic before he became a deputy.

Sikes, 31, was killed and another deputy was injured in an ambush-style shooting attack during a traffic stop. He is survived by his wife, Amber, an employee of the sheriff’s department, and a daughter.

Article Icon 1Speed-Limiting Tech Gains Notice

Georgia and other states are eyeing speed-limiting car technology to curb dangerous stunt driving and repeat speeding offenses.

Georgia state lawmakers considered a bill this past session that would allow courts to order the use of speed-limiting devices for drivers with multiple convictions, capping their vehicle speeds at 70 mph for at least three months.

Virginia recently became the first state to give its judges such a tool. Washington state, New York, and California are other states showing an interest.
