Georgia officials commemorated Memorial Day with ceremonies and public tributes honoring those who died during military service.

Gov. Brian Kemp led a Capitol event recognizing three Georgia soldiers who died in the past year, calling their sacrifice a debt that can never be fully repaid.

Other leaders, including state Attorney General Chris Carr and former Georgia congressman and current Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins, shared messages of gratitude.

Cities and law enforcement agencies across the state posted memorials.

  Article Icon 1 Storms Slam North Georgia

Storms ripped through north Georgia on Sunday, toppling a massive barn in Cartersville and damaging farm buildings in Gordon County’s Oostanaula community.

Wind gusts nearing 70 mph led to widespread damage across at least eight counties. Trees and power lines were downed, with more than 5,000 power outages reported as of Monday morning.

Roads turned hazardous, contributing to multiple crashes around metro Atlanta. More severe weather is expected through today, fueled by high humidity and daytime heat.
