Federal immigration officers arrived at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Monday to help manage long passenger security lines during the partial government shutdown.

ICE and Homeland Security Investigations agents were seen alongside TSA workers at checkpoints as part of the agency’s deployment to the nation’s hardest-hit airports.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said the agents would assist with line management and crowd control.

About 30% to 40% of TSA agents at Hartsfield-Jackson have called off work, as TSA workers nationwide go without pay for a sixth week.

Georgia drivers should begin seeing savings from Gov. Kemp’s 60-day gas tax suspension this week as new fuel deliveries reach stations across the state.

The tax of 33.3 cents per gallon is paid at the distributor level, not at the pump, meaning savings take several days to flow through.

AAA estimates a driver filling a standard 15-gallon tank could save roughly $5 per fill-up.

Georgia’s average gas price on Tuesday was $3.67, down 3 cents from the day before. You can track gas prices in your area here.
