Georgia U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter’s twin 11-year-old granddaughters are safe after surviving the deadly flash floods that struck Camp Mystic in Kerr County, Texas. A 9-year-old cousin of the granddaughters was among those killed.

Carter’s granddaughters were rescued by helicopter after reaching higher ground.

“I got a call from my son who was very upset and told me what was going on, and of course immediately I started praying and didn’t cease praying until we found out they were OK,” Carter said.

Carter said the family is heartbroken and grateful for the prayers and support. In May, Carter, R-Savannah, announced he is running for U.S. Senate against incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff.

Matthew Miller’s children and wife credit Miller with saving their lives after the family’s boat exploded Friday on Lake Nottely in Union County.

Miller said a fireball engulfed the boat after a refueling stop, describing the scene as “fire everywhere, couldn’t see anything, everybody screaming.”

One son, Isaac, 17, suffered life-threatening burns over 80% of his body, and another son also suffered burn injuries. Miller pulled both out of the flames.

A GoFundMe campaign for the family has raised more than $20,000 to help with medical costs.

Africanized “killer” bees have been found in Barbour County, Alabama, just across the Chattahoochee River from Georgia, prompting concern from state agriculture officials.

Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper said there’s no immediate danger but urged beekeepers to report aggressive colonies as a precaution. The Alabama swarm was euthanized, and that state is testing nearby hives to prevent a spread.

In an unrelated event, a toddler continues to recover after being stung over 150 times by yellowjackets on June 24 in the Savannah area.
