Article Icon 1Rural Health Care in Focus

State lawmakers are pushing to expand student loan forgiveness for rural oncologists and fund mobile screening units, aiming to close a growing cancer care gap between urban and rural areas.

Meanwhile, the state will receive $218.8 million from the first year of a five-year federal grant program designed to improve rural health care nationwide, part of the One Big Beautiful Bill passed by Congress last year.

In Georgia, only about 8% of the state’s cancer doctors serve rural counties, where long travel, hospital closures, and poverty also limit access.

Article Icon 1 Greene Exits Congress

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Rome, marked her final day in office on Monday, calling her five years in Washington, D.C., an honor while continuing to speak out on healthcare and other issues of importance to her and her district.

She also posted on social media about stopping for lunch at her local Steak ‘n Shake in Rome, which has drawn national attention for its billboard honoring the late Charlie Kirk and its message, “Stand up. Speak out. Stay bold.”

In an interview, Greene noted agreement with President Trump on 98% of her votes, while also defending her recent criticism of Trump, fellow Republicans, and Democrats over healthcare, the Epstein files, and foreign military intervention.

On healthcare, she said, “Democrats with Obamacare and the ACA tax credits have virtually destroyed health care and made it unaffordable. But I’ve been very critical of my own party for doing nothing about it, and they have still done nothing about it.”

A crowded GOP field is lining up to replace her in the heavily Republican district, with a special election expected to be scheduled in the near future.

Article Icon 1Falcons House Cleaning Deepens

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank continued his shakeup of the team’s management, reassigning longtime chief executive Rich McKay to a non-football position a day after firing head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot.

Blank also announced plans to hire a president of football operations from outside the organization.

Blank released a letter outlining the plans and taking blame for the team’s poor performance, saying that “Moving forward, every decision will be made with one clear objective—building a team capable of sustained success and competing for championships.”

The Falcons’ last winning season came in 2017, and the team goes into this year’s NFL draft without a first-round pick.
