Probe Ongoing into Deadly Prison Fighting

Authorities released the identities of the three inmates killed as a result of several major fights Sunday at Washington State Prison in Davisboro. At least 12 other inmates, along with one guard, were injured.

Officials with the state Department of Corrections have not released information as to the cause, which some described as a “possible riot.”

The fighting broke out Sunday afternoon, prompting a lockdown and a large law enforcement response to secure both the prison and local hospitals.

 The prison, which houses over 1,500 men, was secured by Sunday evening.

  Carroll County Tornado Confirmed

The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in Carroll County during storms on Saturday morning.

The tornado hit about 10:54 a.m. south of Lowell, with wind speeds reaching 95 mph. The tornado stayed on the ground for just over one mile, breaking up after about seven minutes.

One home and several barns sustained damage, but no injuries were reported.

A winter cooldown is forecast to arrive in much of the state by Thursday, and officials are cautioning residents to winterize their homes and review safety tips.
