Article Icon 1 Marvel Studios Exits Georgia

The movie studio behind The Avengers series and other superhero blockbusters is moving most of its filming from Georgia to the United Kingdom, citing lower labor costs.

Disney-owned Marvel Studios joins a growing list of movie makers opting to film elsewhere, a trend that has contributed to the nearly 50% drop in film production spending in the state since 2022.

The exodus has left soundstages idle and thousands of workers scrambling for new jobs.

Marvel projects such as the next Avengers films will be shot abroad, ending the studio’s decade-long run that helped make Georgia the “Hollywood of the South.”

Article Icon 1 GOP Senate Primary Heats Up

Georgia Republicans are bracing for a possibly bruising 2026 U.S. Senate primary between current congressmen Mike Collins and Buddy Carter and former college football coach Derek Dooley.

In the early going, Collins and Carter, who are close to President Trump, are focused in part on challenging Dooley’s legislative inexperience and lack of prior support for Trump and his political allies, while Dooley is embracing the role of an outsider.

The winner of the GOP primary will face incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff.

Article Icon 15K Race Honors Fallen Officer

The Atlanta Track Club said the Atlanta’s Finest 5K run on Saturday raised more than $40,000 for the wife and children of DeKalb County police officer David Rose.

Registration spiked after organizers announced 100% of the race proceeds would go to the family. Rose was killed in the Aug. 8 mass shooting near the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

A public memorial service for Rose will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Atlanta.
