Home Sellers Offer Concessions

A report shows 61% of Atlanta home sellers offered concessions to buyers this year, ranking the city behind only Seattle and Portland.

Concessions can include paying for repair costs, closing fees, and mortgage buydowns, and their growing use reflects a shift toward a more balanced market, real estate agents say.

The report adds to other data giving an updated snapshot of the state’s housing market.

Stacker released a list of Georgia cities with the fastest-growing home prices, and Realtor.com ranked Georgia ninth-best among states for housing affordability and supply.

  Bottoms Enters Governor Race

Former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms officially filed paperwork to run for Georgia governor in 2026, with a formal announcement expected soon.

Bottoms, a Democrat and former adviser in the Biden administration, joins what is shaping up to be a crowded race as Republican Gov. Brian Kemp is term-limited.

The field is expected to draw big names from both parties, although potential Democratic candidates Jason Carter and Lucy McBath recently announced they don’t plan on running.

Bottoms served as Atlanta mayor from 2018 to 2022, drawing praise for her work on social justice and housing issues and criticism over a rise in violent crime.

Student Visa Data Restored

The Trump administration started to reinstate international student visa records, including many at Georgia Tech, after removing them from a federal database earlier this month.

The removal of the data left students uncertain about their legal status and sparked hundreds of lawsuits.

Immigration experts say the situation remains unstable and advise vigilance moving forward.
