Article Icon 1Plane Arrives for South Korea Workers

A Korean Air charter arrived in Atlanta on Wednesday to take detained South Korean workers home, but the return flight was delayed until today.

The workers were detained during last week’s immigration raid at Hyundai’s electric vehicle battery plant.

Gov. Brian Kemp issued a statement reiterating his support for the raid while pledging continued support for Georgia’s strong trade ties with South Korea.

“We are thankful they are reiterating their commitment to adhere to all state and federal laws, just as we remain committed to not allowing this unfortunate incident to undo the decades of mutually beneficial partnerships we’ve built together,” Kemp said.

DeKalb County firefighter Preston Fant, a 21-year veteran of the department, died Monday while rescuing a fellow firefighter from a burning warehouse in Lithonia. He leaves behind a wife and five children.

Flags were lowered to half-staff on Tuesday as tributes poured in for Fant, who was remembered as a devoted family man and beloved mentor. He is the first DeKalb firefighter to die while battling a fire.

Fant, 53, was trapped in the blaze and later died at Grady Memorial Hospital. The fire broke out at a film production warehouse and remains under investigation.

Article Icon 1Retirement Within Faster Reach in Georgia

A study ranks Georgia among the fastest states for banking enough money for retirement, with residents needing 27 working years—well below the national average—to hit a savings goal of $813,559.

With solid wages and relatively low living costs, the Peach State outpaces most states in retirement readiness.

The report follows others that praise many Georgia cities for retiree affordability and lifestyle, with towns such as Clarkesville and St. Simons Island offering options from mountain air to coastal charm.

Waycross, a small town near the Okefenokee Swamp, was named the top retirement spot in the South for its low home prices, access to nature, and strong community ties.
