Gov. Brian Kemp signed Senate Bill 241, making Georgia the 13th state to legalize human composting as an alternative to burial or cremation.

Starting July 1, licensed funeral homes can dispose of human remains using a 60- to 90-day decomposition process utilizing plant materials.

Newton County authorities searched for 16-year-old Jayden Daniel, accused of fatally shooting his stepfather, David Gay, inside their Covington home Tuesday.

The motive remained unclear, and investigators urged anyone with information to call 911 and avoid approaching the suspect.
