Atlanta’s $118 million Public Safety Training Center opened, with Gov. Brian Kemp, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, and Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum leading a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday.

The leaders touted the 85-acre complex as a major advancement in the area’s public safety efforts. The complex “will ensure that we recruit, equip, and train the officers and firefighters necessary to keep the city safe,” Schierbaum said.

The project continues to draw protests from environmental groups and police department critics, representatives of whom gathered outside the ceremony.

The district plans to introduce mentorship programs and conflict de-escalation training, with DeKalb County School District Superintendent Devon Horton calling for restorative approaches.

Article Icon 1 Yard Waste Burn Ban Starts

Georgia’s annual summer burn ban begins today and runs through September 30, covering 54 counties.

The ban on outdoor burning of yard waste aims to curb pollution during peak ozone months, helping protect the health of the public, especially people with respiratory issues.

Campfires and grills are still allowed.

State officials stress that violators could face fines, and they encourage composting as an alternative. They also advise residents to check their local outdoor fire rules, which can vary.

Put an End to Those Pesky Spam Calls

There are few things more frustrating than dashing across the room to answer your ringing phone, only to see “Potential Spam” on the caller ID (probably for the third time today). If you want to cleanse your phone of this annoyance (and increase your personal security), you have three options:

1. Throw your phone into the ocean.

2. Individually block each unknown caller.

3. Stop spammers from getting your number in the first place with Incogni.

We highly recommend option No. 3, and not just because electronic garbage is bad for aquatic life. Incogni’s automated personal information removal service hunts down your personal information, then removes it from the web. Plus, Incogni will reduce the number of spam emails in your inbox.
