Article Icon 1Historic Building Faces Bulldozer

Georgia State University plans to demolish a historic 1916 building at 148 Edgewood Avenue to build a Greek-life park, part of a $107 million campus overhaul ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Preservationists, community groups, and local officials oppose the move, arguing it would erase part of the legacy of the Martin Luther King Jr. historic district.

Georgia State officials and project supporters say the building is too costly to renovate, and the planned green space will boost student safety and campus appeal.

The Atlanta Hawks acquired Kristaps Porzingis and a second-round pick from the Boston Celtics in a three-team trade ahead of Wednesday night’s NBA Draft.

The Hawks traded Terance Mann and a No. 22 draft pick to the Brooklyn Nets, and Georges Niang and a second-round pick to the Celtics for their part in the three-team deal.

One analyst gave Atlanta high marks for the deal as the team looks to rise in the East. Porzingis, a 7-foot, 2-inch former All-Star and NBA champion, joins a young and talented core while giving the team a defensive anchor.

Berry College in Mount Berry landed at No. 2 on Travel + Leisure’s list of the 30 most beautiful college campuses in the U.S., praised for its 27,000-acre grounds featuring lakes, forests, and English Gothic architecture.

The University of Georgia also made the list, ranked No. 27 for landmarks such as the historic Arch and Founders Memorial Garden. Stanford was ranked No. 1.

The top rankings add to a growing list of accolades for Georgia schools, with Berry, Georgia Tech, Mercer, and Spelman making U.S. News and World Report‘s list of the nation’s 25 most beautiful college campuses, released in January.
