U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said she won’t enter Georgia’s 2026 governor’s race, ending months of speculation.

Greene, R-Rome, left the door open for a future run but said, at the moment, she’s tired of party politics. She released a social media post blasting what she called the GOP’s “good ole boy” system.

Her exit sets the stage for a Republican primary runoff between announced candidates Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and state Attorney General Chris Carr. Democrats are also gearing up for a high-stakes primary in the race.

With the start of high school football season just around the corner, communities across Georgia are preparing to spend more than a few nights under the lights.

In Buford, a new $62 million stadium awaits the nationally ranked Wolves and their fans. On Aug. 14, Buford will host another state powerhouse, Milton High School, in a game to be televised on ESPN.

In Macon, Bibb County’s six high school teams gathered for Media Day to share goals and rally around the theme of Filling the GAP, with GAP standing for gratitude, accountability, and purpose.

All around the state, fans are prepping grills and game-day rituals, with one observer ranking Lowndes High School in Valdosta and Coffee High School in Douglas as the state’s best tailgating parties for prep games.

Relief is on the way for Georgia after weeks of punishing heat, with cooler air and rain expected to move in by Saturday.

Daily high temperatures will drop from the 90s to the upper 70s by the weekend. Also, afternoon storms are possible, with widespread rain helping to knock temperatures down across much of the state.

On Tuesday, the Atlanta area hit 100 degrees for the first time this summer. The “feels like” heat index reached 107.
