GE Appliances plans to move manufacturing from China and Mexico to Georgia and other states as part of a $3 billion U.S. expansion.

The company said its Roper Corp. plant in LaFayette, which employs 2,650 workers, will produce gas ranges now made in Mexico. The plant completed a $180 million expansion in June, adding more than 600 jobs and tripling robotics capacity.

GE Appliances also operates a logistics center in Murray County and a distribution center in Jackson County.

CEO Kevin Nolan said the U.S. expansion aligns with the company’s long-term strategy. “With lean manufacturing, upskilling our workforce, and automation, the math works for manufacturing in the United States,” he said.
