Georgia and Georgia Tech football fans found plenty to cheer about Saturday, with the Bulldogs downing Ole Miss and the Yellow Jackets staying undefeated.

No. 9 Georgia trailed No. 5 Ole Miss 35-26 entering the fourth quarter. Two touchdown passes from quarterback Gunner Stockton lifted the Bulldogs to a 43-35 home win.

For No. 12 Georgia Tech, a 95-yard fumble return for a touchdown and a fourth-quarter surge helped deliver a 27-18 win at Duke, keeping the Yellow Jackets perfect through seven games.

The Bulldogs are idle next week before playing Florida on Nov. 1. Georgia Tech hosts Syracuse at noon on Saturday.

Georgia’s deer firearms season opened Saturday and runs through Jan. 11 for most counties.

“Opening day of the firearms deer season is like a holiday that hundreds of thousands of deer hunters look forward to each year,” said Charlie Killmaster, deer biologist for the state Wildlife Resources Division.

Last season, more than 200,000 hunters harvested about 220,000 deer.

This season, hunters in Berrien, Lanier, and Lowndes counties are advised to have their harvested deer tested for chronic wasting disease.

The Atlanta Falcons enter tonight’s prime-time matchup at San Francisco full of confidence following their Monday night win against Buffalo.

The Falcons’ top-ranked defense will look to disrupt the 49ers’ high-powered passing offense, led by quarterback Mac Jones, who has been filling in for an injured Brock Purdy.

Falcons running back Bijan Robinson was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week after totaling 238 scrimmage yards in the Buffalo game.

Atlanta rookies Jalon Walker and Billy Bowman Jr. have been ruled out of tonight’s game, while wide receiver Darnell Mooney and tackle Jake Matthews are listed as questionable.
