Article Icon 1Mexican Cartel Operation Busted In Georgia

Federal agents have recently intensified efforts against Mexican drug cartel operations as they continue to make a presence in Georgia.

A joint investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) led to the seizure of over 200 firearms worth over $250,000 as well as significant quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cash.

A total of 14 individuals from the criminal enterprise have been arrested, nine of whom were reportedly in the U.S. illegally.

“Nine illegal aliens that had fraudulently obtained documents in the United States that they were … utilizing to secure firearms, and ultimately try to push them down to the Southwest border and into Mexico,” said HSI Special Agent in Charge Steve Schrank.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Severe thunderstorms swept across the state on Friday, which fire officials believe caused a roof collapse at Chemence Medical Products in Forsyth County, a medical glue facility.

All occupants made it out safely. However, four employees did suffer minor injuries.

The medical glue facility experienced significant damage and flooding due to the collapse.

This event was part of a broader severe weather outbreak that spanned approximately 1,500 miles across a dozen states from Texas to New York. The National Weather Service received nearly 200 damage reports, including downed trees, power lines, flash flooding, and isolated tornado sightings.

Article Icon 1Tax Relief Program Launches for Atlanta’s Eligible Senior Residents

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens announced the Anti-Displacement Tax Relief Fund earlier this week.

Backed by $10 million from the Centennial Yards Housing Trust Fund, the initiative provides direct financial assistance to cover property tax increases for the next 20 years to senior homeowners in Atlanta who have owned a home in the city since 2015 and have an Area Median Income of 60% or less.

Administered in partnership with Invest Atlanta, the program is aimed at preventing displacement due to rising property taxes in the city, which have seen a 31% increase over the past five years.

The application window is open throughout the entire month of May.
