Article Icon 1Active Shooter Hoaxes at GA Universities

On Friday evening, multiple universities in Georgia—the University of Georgia, Clark Atlanta University, and the University of West Georgia—received hoax reports of active shooter incidents.

Authorities say these incidents are part of a rising national trend of “swatting,” in which individuals make fake emergency calls to provoke large police responses.

The FBI and Georgia Bureau of Investigation are collaborating with local authorities to investigate these hoaxes.

The hoaxes come just days after similar incidents took place at Mercer University and Central Georgia Technical College.

Generac Power Systems, a power generator company, has opened a 500,000-square-foot distribution center in Augusta aimed at enhancing storm response and customer support across the Southeastern United States.

The facility is already equipped with approximately 1,000 generators, ready for deployment to neighborhoods impacted by storms to provide critical backup power.

The distribution center, now the organization’s largest in the U.S., is expected to create numerous job opportunities in the city.

The opening of the facility comes nearly a year after Hurricane Helene, which significantly impacted the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA).

The Georgia Department of Agriculture is alerting farmers that a newly detected pest, cotton jassid, is quickly spreading across the state and poses a major threat to cotton and other plants like okra, eggplant, and sunflowers.

The first detection of the pest in Georgia was reported last month in Seminole County.

“We’re encouraging all Georgia cotton producers to check their crop to look for evidence of the cotton jassid, and if found, immediately contact your County Extension office,” said Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper.

The cotton jassid has been spotted in multiple states across the Southeast.
