A shooting occurred on Friday near the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) headquarters and Emory University in Atlanta, resulting in the death of the shooter and a DeKalb County police officer. No civilians were injured.

The gunman, identified as 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White from Kennesaw, opened fire outside the CDC, striking multiple buildings and causing widespread panic.

Officer David Rose was fatally shot by White while responding to the shooting.

White was later found dead inside a nearby CVS Pharmacy following a gunfight on the second floor; it remains unclear whether his death was self-inflicted or caused by police gunfire.

The incident prompted lockdowns at both the CDC and Emory University.

An investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is ongoing.

The Atlanta Falcons’ preseason game on Friday against the Detroit Lions was suspended early in the fourth quarter after Lions safety Morice Norris sustained a serious head and neck injury while attempting to tackle Falcons running back Nathan Carter.

After Norris was attended to for nearly 20 minutes and taken off the field in an ambulance, both teams agreed to stop playing out of respect for Norris and his family.

The teams opted to let the clock run out, and with 6:31 remaining in the fourth quarter, an official announced the game had been suspended.

“The thought process for both of us was about Morice Norris and his family. That’s what it’s all about,” Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said.

Later that night, the Detroit Lions shared that Norris was in stable condition.

A Piper PA-28 propeller plane crashed into the yard of a Brookhaven home on Saturday, hospitalizing all three people on board with non-life-threatening injuries.

The aircraft, registered to All2Fly Flight School, was returning to the Peachtree-DeKalb Airport from the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport in Rome.

The plane struck power lines and trees before crashing near Clairmont Road and 9th Street, resulting in power outages.

An investigation into the crash will be conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board.
