APS Employees to Receive Bonuses

Atlanta Public Schools announced that it will give a one‑time bonus of up to $2,000 to eligible employees districtwide.

The payments will be distributed on April 15.

The bonuses build on House Bill 973, which was signed into law by Gov. Brian Kemp last month. The bill provided a one-time $2,000 supplement for eligible K-12 teachers and support staff in Georgia.

Now, eligible full-time and part-time workers across all classifications will receive a bonus after the Atlanta Board of Education voted to extend the funding to more roles, such as custodians and administrative employees.

“This was a clear priority for the Board,” said Board Chair Jessica Johnson. “Our employees show up for our students every day, and this was our opportunity to show up for them.”

  Two Dead in Major Cobb County Crash

A multi‑vehicle crash on Interstate 75 northbound in Cobb County shut down lanes for hours on Friday morning and killed two people.

According to authorities, the fatal collision occurred near the Wade Green Road and Hickory Grove Road exits when a red tractor-trailer veered out of its lane and collided with another tractor-trailer, triggering a chain reaction that also involved a pickup truck with a flatbed trailer.

The driver and passenger of the red tractor-trailer, Zory Beavers, 28, and Royan Osborne, 42, were pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the other vehicles were not injured.

The incident remains under investigation.

Wayfair Launches in Atlanta

Wayfair, a home goods and furniture store, opened a 150,000-square-foot location earlier this week on Howell Mill Road in Atlanta.

The location, the company’s second-ever large-format store in the nation, will host a grand-opening celebration from April 17-19, with the first 100 customers each day during the event receiving a $50 gift card.

The 18-department store features The Porch, a cafe serving all-day brunch items, baked goods, sandwiches, and coffee.
