Walmart Adding Drone Delivery in Atlanta

Walmart will bring drone deliveries to Atlanta through a partnership with drone maker Wing, offering the service within a 6-mile radius of participating stores.

Atlanta is one of five cities picked for the retailer’s major expansion of drone deliveries, with the service also to be launched in Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa.

Since 2021, Walmart has completed more than 150,000 successful drone deliveries, including in Dallas-Fort Worth and Northwest Arkansas.

Wing’s drones can carry packages up to five pounds and travel at speeds up to 65 mph.

  Funds OK’d for Faster Ambulance Service

DeKalb County will spend $4.9 million to buy more ambulances and add staff as part of its partnership with American Medical Response.

This initiative continues the county’s efforts to address slow ambulance response times.

Last year, the county spent $3.8 million on improvements that led to a decrease in response times by 3 minutes, county leaders said.

The spending follows a report that found AMR’s average response time to life-threatening calls increased to 21 minutes over recent years, well above the county’s goal of 12 minutes.

Jail Contraband Included Cheeseburgers

A raid at the Rice Street jail in Atlanta uncovered a contraband smuggling operation, finding drugs, cell phones, weapons—and cheeseburgers.

The items were discovered during a search that began after a hole was found in an exterior jail window.

The raid followed a separate incident a day earlier at the South Annex jail in Union City, where three people were arrested with a fence-cutting tool and suspected contraband.

In April, two men were arrested for attempting to fly cell phones and drugs into a local jail using a drone.
