Teen Pleads Guilty in Apalachee High Shooting

Colt Gray, the teen accused of the 2024 shooting at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, pleaded guilty to all 55 charges on Friday.

Gray changed his plea and entered a non-negotiated guilty plea in connection with the shooting that left four dead and nine others injured. Prosecutors offered no deal, leaving the judge to decide the sentence.

Earlier this year, Gray’s father was convicted on 27 charges, including two counts of second-degree murder for allowing his son access to the gun used in the shooting. His sentencing is scheduled for July 30.

Gray faces a minimum sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole and a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole. His sentencing hearing will continue on Monday.

Alpharetta Revives Public Bike Share

The Alpharetta City Council voted earlier this week to bring back a public bike-share program six years after the last rental program shut down.

The deal with Tandem Mobility will place 25 bicycles throughout five self-service stations located at the Avalon, the Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau, two at True North 400, and one near Northside Hospital.

Bicycles can be rented or returned at any of the self-service stations. Riders get the first hour free, then pay $2.50 for each additional 30 minutes.

Alpharetta will pay $12,000 for each station. If the program hits the city’s goals, officials said they could add more stations and bikes.

Winner Crowned in Macon French Fry Fight

Macon Water Ice has claimed the Super Spud Trophy for the second consecutive year after earning the most votes in Downtown Macon’s 2026 French Fry Fight, a three-day competition showcasing specialty fry creations from local restaurants.

This year’s event, organized by NewTown Macon, featured 22 downtown restaurants serving limited-time french fry dishes from July 8-10.

The restaurant took home the top honor with its Pineapple Mango Salmon Fries, a dish featuring seasoned fries topped with grilled salmon, pineapples, mangos, broccoli, grilled onions and peppers, American cheese, and a pineapple-mango sauce.

Last year, Macon Water Ice took home the trophy for its Buffalo Mac Fries.
