Third Commercial Bird Flu Case of 2026

Georgia’s third commercial bird flu case of the year was recently detected in a Hart County commercial poultry flock of more than 39,000 birds.

All commercial poultry farms within a 6.2-mile radius have been placed under quarantine.

Two other flocks in Walker County also tested positive for the virus earlier this month.

Officials say the food supply is currently safe, and all deceased birds have been kept out of the market.

  Atlanta Falcons Hire New GM

The Atlanta Falcons have hired Ian Cunningham, a former assistant general manager for the Chicago Bears, as their new general manager.

Cunningham had previously interviewed for the team’s president of football role, which went to former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.

“It was evident through our rigorous interview process Ian was the right choice for our general manager position,” Ryan said in a statement. “His vision for our team and organization aligned exactly with the type of leader we were seeking to help take the Falcons to the next level.”

The move comes shortly after the team hired Kevin Stefanski as their new head coach.

New State Flower Proposed

Georgia lawmakers are considering a bill to replace the state’s official flower, the Cherokee rose, with the sweetbay magnolia, a plant native to the state.

The Cherokee rose, which has held the title since 1916, is now considered invasive by the Georgia Invasive Species Council.

Officials say the Cherokee rose was actually introduced from Asia and was originally adopted under the mistaken belief that it was native to the state and tied to the Cherokee people.

The proposal is waiting for a hearing in the House Special Rules Committee.
