Article Icon 1Former UGA Football Player Sentenced to Life

Former University of Georgia wide receiver Ahkil Crumpton has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2021 murder of RaceTrac clerk Elijah Wood.

Crumpton had been accused of shooting and killing Wood during a robbery attempt at a RaceTrac gas station in Watkinsville.

Crumpton was convicted of all charges: two counts of felony murder, attempted armed robbery, aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Last year, Crumpton was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for a separate conviction in the same case.

  Article Icon 1Georgia Tech Athletics Receives $20 Million

Georgia Tech announced that two anonymous donors have collectively pledged $20 million to support its Full Steam Ahead athletics initiative and football program.

“We’re incredibly grateful to these two generous families for their investments in Georgia Tech athletics and a championship-level football program,” said Ryan Alpert, Georgia Tech’s vice president and director of athletics.

Nearly $400 million has been raised towards the initiative’s $500 million goal.

In related news, the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation has committed $6.3 million to increase access to middle and high school sports throughout metro Atlanta.

Out of the 100 biggest cities in the nation, Atlanta has been ranked the best to celebrate Christmas in 2025, according to a new report by WalletHub.

The ranking considered factors like costs, number of attractions and shops, dining options, Google search interest, and generosity.

The city also took the No. 1 spot in the respective 2024 rankings.
