Daylight Saving Time Bill Fails to Advance

A proposed bill that would have moved Georgia into a new time zone to effectively make daylight saving time permanent did not advance before the 2026 legislative session concluded on Thursday night.

A vote for the bill was never called for.

If the bill had been able to pass through the Georgia House, Governor Brian Kemp, and the U.S. Department of Transportation, Georgia would’ve moved from Eastern Standard Time to Atlantic Standard Time.

The state Senate approved the bill last week.

During the session, lawmakers reached a last-minute agreement on a $38.5 billion state budget.

Stores Found Selling Counterfeit Items

Authorities executed search warrants at 16 stores and kiosks inside Arbor Place Mall in Douglasville after an undercover investigation found they were selling counterfeit products.

A variety of fake goods were recovered, such as jewelry, clothing, cell phone accessories, and sunglasses.

The Douglasville Police Department said counterfeit sales have become common in cities across the nation and that they took action at the mall to protect residents and shoppers, deeming the effort and disruption necessary.

The specific stores have not yet been named. Authorities will eventually decide on criminal charges.

New $55M Aquatic Center and Water Park

A new aquatic center and water park is expected to open in McDonough this June.

The $55 million facility will include an outdoor water park featuring a 30‑foot slide tower, lazy river, wave simulator, kiddie pool, rooftop patio, and food truck area.

The attraction will also include an indoor aquatic center—a competition-ready space with a temperature‑controlled 50‑meter Olympic‑size pool, 800 spectator seats, and a separate lap pool.

The project is largely funded through a local sales tax.
