Article Icon 1State Election Board Votes for Hand Counts

The Georgia State Election Board voted to implement several changes before the November election, including the hand-counting of ballots after the polls close.

Another rule mandates changes to the absentee ballot process, requiring additional documentation for ballots that were issued, received, or rejected.

The board also voted to expand the locations where poll watchers can be placed during the election.

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr objected, saying the hand-counting requirement violates state law and the absentee ballot rule exceeds the board’s authority.

Marcee Gray, the mother of the Apalachee High School shooting suspect, has been indicted for elderly exploitation in connection with a domestic incident from late 2023.

She is accused of taping her 74-year-old mother to a chair, taking her phone, and leaving her restrained for nearly a full day.

Gray was initially arrested in 2023 in connection with this incident and served a 45-day jail sentence for lesser charges, including criminal trespassing and property damage.

The new indictment indicates that further investigation has led to this more serious charge.

The service took place at St. Matthew Catholic Church, where approximately 600 mourners gathered to pay their respects.

The mass was conducted in English and Spanish, reflecting Christian’s Mexican heritage and highlighting the impact on the Hispanic community.
